Bone Regeneration & Jaw Bone Grafting in NJ

Bone Regeneration At The Warren Smile Center in New Jersey

The success of your dental implants is often depended upon the density of your jawbone. Dental implants utilize screws to keep them in place, but sufficient bone density is necessary to securely anchor the implant. Traditionally, bone grafting was necessary in cases where insufficient jaw bone density left dental implants unstable, but traditional grafting is invasive and creates two healing sites. At the Warren Smile Center, Dr. Mark Stein offers a less invasive and more effective option to increase the jaw bone density in preparation for dental implants: bone regeneration.

What is bone regeneration?

The Warren Smile Center provides bone regeneration specifically known as Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP) at the Warren Smile Center. BMP is a convenient technique of building a higher jaw bone density without removing bone from a donor site. During this procedure, the dentist will pack the BMP around the existing jaw bone. The protein in BMP will actually stimulate your jaw to produce more bone as the trellis-like sponge periodically releases protein into your jaw. In addition to regulating the release of protein, the sponge also guides the growth of new bone. The dentists at the Warren Smile Center will determine if bone regeneration is necessary by taking preliminary scans of your jaw. If you do need higher jawbone density, the dentist will provide the BMP procedure, allow your jaw to grow the sufficient amount of jawbone, and then provide you with dental implants

Another method utilized by Dr. Stein at the Warren Smile Center for bone regeneration is using bone products that are either synthetic or sterilized human bone (allograft). This process works by “tricking” or body into thinking that it need to make more bone in the area of the graft, and aver the nexr several months, an adequate amount of the patient’s own bone is created, sufficient for dental implant placement. Dr Stein has performed thousands of predictable and successful bone regeneration procedures.

How is bone regeneration different from traditional bone grafting?

Bone regeneration provides many benefits over the traditional method of bone grafting.  During bone regeneration, on the other hand, the only site that must heal is the treatment site. Without the need for a donor site, bone regeneration proves less invasive and allows for a quicker recovery following surgery.

Traditional Bone Grafting Bone Regeneration (BMP)
Requires a donor site Eliminates the need for a donor site
4 to 9 months before dental implants Improved success with dental implants
More invasive Less invasive
Multiple healing sites One healing site
